We had 5 or 6 over as many years and never had any of that sort of malarky I'm glad to say.

One did get a tramp stamp done when she was here which we're sure her mother was not at all pleased about when she got home.

Not our problem thankfully.

Re: Live in au pair.

Seeing as the bint has a Brabus and I have an (old) 330 vert insurance as a named driver is pretty much out of the question.

Cabs will work out lots cheaper.

Holiday pay adds on 12.07% to the hourly rate and Employers NI will vary on wages. However you probably won't pay employers NI due to the £3000 NI break for employers this year, unless you are paying her about 30 grand a year.

If you are, you must be slipping her one!

Bottom line is put 12.07% aside for holiday pay, get employers liability insurance and if she's sick or get's up the duff you will have to pay sick pay and mat pay too. Plus she's legally entitled to receive a payslip.

Yes, employing people in this country is a joke.

And she'll need a car (or insuring on yours) to drive the kids to activities, other kids parties, etc.

A bit more to it than that Joe

https://www.gov.uk/au-pairs-employment-law/nannies

Don't forget your employers Liability Insurance and make sure you check that they are entitled to work in the UK.

And you must give her an employment contract and the PAYE administration, including Payslips.

Sick pay, Holiday pay, and her maternity pay/leave if she fancies it..

Great idea - one hours work in the morning taking sprog to school , two hours in the evening picking her up and doing her a bit of tea 3 hours work a day = 100.50 a week.

Then we can charge her £100 a week for renting the room she sleeps in and that leaves her 50p to feed herself.

I'm guessing the £100 a week option we pay will be a bit better for her.

Costs

An au pair is an additional adult living with you at home, thus as a consequence, hosting an au pair leads to higher living costs.

Pocket money

According to the Home Office, au pairs in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland receive 70-85 GBP per week.

Board and lodging

An au pair is entitled to free board and lodging at your home for the entirety of their stay. The same also applies in case of illness and during the au pair holidays. Furthermore, the au pair receives weekly pocket money from you.

Re: Live in au pair.
If you employ her you have to pay her at least the minimum wage.

I employed a day nanny for my eldest kids about 15 years ago. With the cost as well as the admin hassle of payslips and tax returns etc made it pointless in the end.

The penny finally dropped - if you have kids, look after them yourself and do without a new 100 inch TV every year.

Re: Live in au pair.

The suggested pocket money for taking a kid to school , picking her up and making her tea is 85 quid a week with all day and weekends off.

I'm guessing a 22yo on minimum wage working 35 hours a week renting a bed sit and buying her own food and fares to work would be left with less than £100 a week.
